At the time of this review, we’ve been testing the Scrubba Wash Bag for just over a month, and it’s seen plenty of use on our travels around the UK. Impressively, it’s still looking as good as new. Scrubba Wash Bag Craftsmanship Polyurethane is one of those magical substances that helps improve many of the products we use every day – even if most of us don’t realise it! Indeed, according to the Essential Chemical Industry, ‘No other plastic allows itself to be made to measure in the same way as a polyurethane. Foams can be flexible or rigid, resistant to cold or particularly kind to skin.’ Wildly adaptable, this nifty substance can even occur as a spray or coating, adding vital strength in the form of defence against corrosion and abrasion. TPU has been used in the textile industry for many years, where it has achieved proven results and is particularly admired for its outstanding abrasion resistance.” Feeling The Scrubba Wash Bag Materials At the time of this review, we’ve been testing the Scrubba Wash Bag on trips around the UK for just over a month. So, can this thing really give you “clean clothes anywhere?” Let’s get into it. Material & Aesthetic Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders. It often indicates a user profile.

Other than its size, this thing is the twin of the original version. There are some nodules on the interior washboard, it has the same window to see what’s going on as you’re washing, the same exterior valve, the same overall drybag aesthetic… We’ve even been testing it in the same lime green colorway. Scrubba Wash Bag Mini Wash Board Fill with water to the level marked on the bag. Make sure the water is warm, and not too hot. You can use cold, but it won’t work quite as well, and you’ll need to wash for longer. Add liquid clothes washing soap. Solid clothes washing powder takes longer to dissolve, so we don’t recommend it unless you don’t have liquid soap around. Of course, when we’re traveling, we rarely carry clothes washing liquid, so in a pinch we’ve used shampoo or dish washing soap to clean our clothes. Both work well, but liquid washing soap works best. What type of detergent? It’s best to use actual laundry detergent to get the best wash however you can use standard shampoo and soap if you are travelling light. We have found both liquid and powder washing detergent to do the best job and makes it easier to get the water soapy (and always use eco friendly detergent). If you're travelling for business, you may need to spend the money on your hotel's laundry service to keep your shirts and smart, tailored items looking fresh. But for casual travellers, clothing doesn't need to look perfect, especially if you're away from civilisation. The Scrubba –an Australian invention –may be just what you need. The Scrubba Wash Bag even has benefits over a washing machine too. By washing your clothes inside a Scrubba you’re using far less water, and it uses no energy (apart from a tiny bit of your own, of course). For smaller loads, this thing is also a lot faster than a washing machine, which is a huge bonus. Durability & Testing Another negative about the Scrubba portable washbag is that it leaks. Again, it might not be a problem for everybody. Also, some people might get used to it. However, for some users, it could be annoying. Yes, the Scrubba wash bag is definitely worth it. It could be a bit pricey but for its performance, it is hard to find a good alternative to it. As long as you don’t use water over the recommended temperature ( 50 degrees) and avoid using sharp objects (all the obvious stuff considering it is a material dry bag) the Scrubba wash bag should last many years. There is a guarantee with the bag which applies against defects in the material. Scrubba Wash Bag Review - Conclusion

Warm water will work best, but be mindful not to use water that’s too hot. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too hot for your hands, it’s too hot for the Scrubba. If you’re out in the wilderness—or you’re staying at a dodgy hostel—and don’t have access to warm water, cold will work too, just give it an extra minute of scrubbing. Also, if you are looking for an environment-friendly wash bag that can save water, detergent, and even your money, then the Scrubba would be the best option for you. How Do You Use A Scrubba? Close the vent after deflating the bag…unless you want to spray yourself and your surrounding environment with soapy, dirty water.

About Charles & Micki

In testing, we found that it does take a little while to master the washing process, but it’s straightforward and simple enough for anyone to get the hang of eventually. And we’re happy to report that the Scrubba Wash Bag does deliver on its promise of “clean clothes anywhere.” Using The Scrubba Wash Bag The Scrubba is very simple to use and below is a step by step guide: Step 1 - Fill the Scrubba with your clothes, warm water and laundry detergent At first glance, you could be fooled into thinking the Scrubba Wash Bag is an ordinary dry bag, which makes sense because it can be used as one. Green Scrubba Wash Bag Even if you’re not a traveler, I could see Scrubba being useful if you don’t have a washer or if you’re on a budget. How does the Scrubba work? Once the clean water is poured out, roll the clothes inside the Scrubba to get rid of the excess water.

We like to roll our clothes in a dry towel after we’ve wrung them out to get even more water out. We found this can really aid in the overall drying time.Scrubba does make a travel towel that would help with this. It weights about 6 oz, and is big enough to use as a beach towel at a little over 25″ x 54″. The Scrubba wash bag is a human-powered wash bag machine. It has a large twist-style valve and a flexible washboard inside, which allows it to wash your clothes like an actual washing machine. The Scrubba Wash Bag is a product that you can use whether you’re camping, hiking or overlanding all around the world.

In addition, you can also wash heavier items like jeans or trousers one at a time. So, if you are washing lightweight items, you can wash around 4 to 5 items at once in the Scrubba wash bag. It’s a bit expensive. That said, the Scrubba is similar in price to a quality dry bag. Since dry bags need to be made of high quality materials and well made to avoid any leaks they can be expensive however the Scrubba is also engineered for washing clothes so the difference in price is minimal in our mind. Don’t forget to turn the Scrubba inside out and allow it to dry as well. How much can you wash in the Scrubba?

Give all your clothes a good wring out and then dry with a towel. Scrubba actually make a wash and dry kit which includes a really good drying towel and a stretchy washing line - perfect for using in campervans or whilst camping attaching it between trees (or between your tent and a tree). The Scrubba Wash and dry kit is available here . Besides, it is not hard on your hands or arms to use. You will be able to wash clothes more comfortably using this wash bag compared to hand washing. I got the small Scrubba because I lifted the large version in a local hiking shop and felt like I would rather do a tiny load of laundry every day or two and save the weight. If I were staying in one place, the larger one would make sense, but since I’m changing locations every two or three days, I’d prefer less weight than more. I’m a seriously minimal traveller who cuts soap down to size for travel and this size fits my needs. Another alternative washing method I do with REALLY dirty clothes is keep the dry bag open and just use it as a container essentially. Then I just use my hands inside the bag to use my hands to directly agitate it in the water.
